I chose to read Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia for the Latinx or Latin American Author square for the 2021 r/fantasy book bingo challenge, and I’m glad I did.
Plot:
Casiopea Tun is living in her rich grandfather’s house alongside the rest of her family, being used for chores inside and outside the house. She’s unhappy, and secretly dreams of leaving, but knows that to speak her dream out loud will only invite derision. One day, when excluded from a family trip and left at home, she finds a curious wooden box by her grandfather’s bed. She has no idea that opening it to look at what’s inside will change her life, forever.
